Dan Clowes talent is indeed rare, like Jamie Hernandez his is a clear, confident hand at the board and like Jamie the adoration and respect accorded to him seems universal, the comic and the culture crowds converge around his genius.
Funny that his art should be so assured because his stories often center on the awful awkwardness which afflicts the insecure and ill at ease among our species, stories as finely crafted as the imagery used to visualize his pieces.
Anyway, you know his art from Eightball, Pussey, etc. a retro informed, ligne clair style, beautifully suited to the quietly desperate, sleazily pathetic and wounded

This is the first monograph devoted to this important artist, it contains works you'll know but also a lot of unpublished pieces and all those one off editorial illustrations from journals and albums you either had and lost or have somewhere but can't find.

Put those hopes away biologists this isn't a book about Mark Ryden's blood, no it's the grand farther of the Gothic Kitsch - erm I've dubbed it thus but Gothic Kitsch may not yet exist as such so can I trade mark it? Anyway back to the message folks - genre having fun as only he can with the whole Stigmata thingy!
This new edition sports gorgeous production values and is bigger than the original but it's still equal parts wholesomeness, weirdness, cuteness and gruesomeness served up by a modern master, yet one with a touch of the old masters about him.

Glenn's got a great style suitable for all sorts of subjects, he's had a comic story, Brooklyn Dreams published, while some of his fine art looks like development work for some weird animated feature film and then there's the various subjects he tackles and the various moods he invokes.
Actually subject wise this book is pretty specific to faces but as I said earlier his is a versatile style able to portray matinee idols and sultry stars of a bygone era, cute cartoon sirens and impish fiends, plenty here to enjoy.
To conclude this selection of books by unique talents and free spirits, we have a graphic biography of one of the freest of spirits.

Written by journalist Will Bingley and drawn by new comer Anthony Hope-Smith in a style reminiscent of a young Charlie Adlard this is the story of Hunter S. Thompson American iconoclast.
A troubled kid from Kentucky with few inhibitions concerning his health or moral welfare, who through a variety of extreme experiences gained a unique world view.
Said view gave rise to a new form of reportage, Gonzo Journalism, via which Hunter became a champion of political and social commentary which spoke truth to power, while unsettling conformist middle America with tales of the weirdness gnawing away at its soft white underbelly and at the same time informing those who suspected all wasn't well in the world what it was to live life high and wide!

In which Bepi Vigna and Andrea Serio put a pleasing spin on the tale of the Phaeacian Princess who discovers the ship wrecked Odysseus washed ashore.
In the original versions Odysseus spends a pleasant while in Phaeacia recounting his story to the court and while it's made clear there's a mutual attraction between the Princess and the salty sea dog the love is supposedly never consummated.
To heck with that say Bepi and Andrea and so we have an alternative Odyssey, a spirited story elegantly illustrated in pastel by Andrea in a style reminiscent of the great Lorenzo Mattotti's.
Before signing off, a bit of store news, there's a lot of boxes building up as I prepare an export order please excuse this and the noise in the early morning as we reinforce the shelving of our book cases which gives us the opportunity to change locations for some categories.

Le talent de Daniel Clowes est rare, comme celui de Jaime Hernandez, il est clair, sur de lui et comme Jaime l'interet et le respect que le public lui porte semble universel, le monde du comics et de la culture converge autour de son genie.
C'est drole que son dessin soit aussi sur quand on suit dans beaucoup de ses histoires des personnages souffrant d'une incroyable timidité et insecurité, ses histoires d'ailleurs sont aussi finement ecrites que les dessins servant à les illustrer.
Vous connaissez ses dessins de Eightball, Pussey, ect... un genre retro, un style ligne claire, magnifiquement adapté aux calmement desesperés, vicieux pathetiques et personnes blessées que l'on retrouvent depeints dans ses comics avec sagesse et compassion.
C'est la première monographie à son sujet, elle contient des dessins connus mais egalement des dessins jamais publiés et des travaux publiés dans divers journaux que vous avez surement eus et perdus ou oubliés.
Et il y a egalement des essais de personnes n'aimant pas les comics en general mais qui aiment ceux de Dan.

Biologistes oubliez vos espoirs ceci n'est pas un livre au sujet du sang de Mark Ryden, non c'est la nouvelle edition qui en plus d'etre plus grosse que l'originale est tout aussi incroyable, bizarre, mignone et macabre le tout servi par un maitre moderne avec une touche des anciens maitres en lui.

Le style de Glenn Bare convient à toutes sortes de sujets, il a dessiné une histoire que Brooklyn Dreams a publiée, ou certains de ses dessins ressemblaient à des recherches pour des dessins animés bizarres et puis il y avait differents sujets abordés et differents sentiments evoqués.
Ce livre est specifiquement au sujets de visages mais comme je viens de l'expliquer il est capable faire toute sortes de portraits.
Pour conclure cette selection de livres sur d'uniques talents et esprits libres, nous avons reçu une biographie en BD sur un des esprits les plus libres.

Retrouvez Bepi Vigna et Andrea Serio vous narrant la legende de la Princesse Pheacienne qui a decouvert le vaisseau echoué d'Odysseus (le vrai nom d'Ulysse).
Dans l'histoire originale Odysseus passa un plaisant moment en Pheacie racontant son histoire à la cour et alors qu'il est clair qu'il y avait une attraction mutuelle entre la princesse et le marin, leur amour n'a jamais etait consommé.
Mais voici une version alternative, une belle histoire elegamment illustrée en pastel par Andrea Serio dans un style rappelant le grand Lorenzo Mattoti.
Avant de vous liberer, voici quelques nouvelles, il y a beaucoup de boites dans la boutique car je suis en train de preparer une grosse commande pour l'etranger, je m'excuse donc pour le desordre.
Il y a egalement quelques changements de rangement des categories, ameliorant la solidité des bibliotheques nous en avons profiter pour changer de place les pin-ups avec le rayon jeux-videos, art numerique qui lui prend la place du pop surealisme qui se retrouve au fond la où etait les pin-ups.
