Praise laden Sonny Liew has been nominated for an Eisner award and won both a Xeric-award and a Utopiales for this delightful science-fiction comic about two street urchins in a near future metropolis.


We also have Sonny Liew's delightful take on Disney's version of Lewis Carroll's Wonderland called - no surprise - Wonderland.

Rounding out today's new deliveries from the USA is a book from one of the nicest artists out there.

Chris Ayers: My Daily Zoo

Concept artist Chris Ayers' previous books of animal caricatures, The Daily Zoo volumes 1 and 2, are among our best selling titles, each one being a collection of illustrations undertaken my Chris as a means of additional therapy while receiving treatment for leukemia.

His latest release is an activity book for children of all ages, wherein one can assist the artist by getting ones own hands dirty and finishing of a piece by filling in those gaps Chris has left gaping and gasping for our input and then coloring the whole thing, hours of fun, or days if you are slow or have a country or big company to run!

NB: A percentage from all My Daily Zoo sold will go to aid research into Cancer treatment.

Also, along with artist Joe Weatherly Chris will be having a gallery show here in Paris courtesy of our friends at Gallery Daniel Maghen, we'll ley you know exact dates once these are confirmed.

MARVEL STUDIO'S CAPTAIN AMERICA HITS OUR SCREENS

While in San Diego between buying stuff for the Pulp's stores the team found time to catch the latest block buster from Marvel Studios, Captain America.


It was enjoyable, though the funny thing - from my perspective at least - was the film was at it's best when the characters were talking and not when they were running after, leaping over and punching stuff.
Maybe that had something to do with the extensive use of CG effects or the fact that the Red Skulls minions seemed decidedly hopeless, or perhaps the characters are simply well written and played.


Which ever, you can decide for yourself, but do remember to stay put for a neat post credits scene featuring the Avengers and that Pulp's Art has the art book for the film, while Pulp's Comics has all the Captain American stories you could want.

41 masters of conveying emotion, narrative, mood, pick the adjective of your choice, via illustration have their careers and technical approach considered by illustration historian and expert Fred Taraba.

Each of the illustrators featured is a genuine master but what makes this heavily illustrated book different is the absence of the more obvious choices like JC Leyendecker and Norman Rockwell but that's OK because we've books dedicated to these greats.

The extraordinarily talented Tom Lovell is given center stage in the latest issue of one of our favorite magazines.

After a long and successful career in illustration Tom, like may of his peers, headed west and painted fine art inspired by the indigenous tribes and the pioneers of the region.

The focus of this issue is his wonderful editorial illustrations which accompanied short stories in the many journals on US newsstands after WW II.

This issue has a touching tribute to the wonderful artist Jeffrey Catherine Jones whose life and career were an example of the importance of integrity to the true artist.

As the title suggests comic artists didn't come better than Alex Toth, this book collects all his comic strip work from 1952 to 1954.

Both a wonderful slice of Americana because of Toth's ability to capture the essence of what he illustrated and some enjoyable comic stories from an age before troubled writers in need of treatment cropped up!

SAN DIEGO SKETCHBOOKS PART 2

This is the second batch of fabulous finds from our search and purchase mission to the 2011 San Diego Comic Con and be warned these books are in limited quantities, some very limited.
We've taken some reservations for certain titles and they may not last the week but we expect to receive more copies of the most popular books with our third and fourth batches of San Diego sketchbooks due to arrive before the end of August and in September.

Sorry, the purpose of this blog is to alert potential customers to products they might like not to leave readers brooding over talent lost to us while in their prime but from a mention of the late Dave Stevens here we are considering the late Michael Turner.

Aspen have produced a small number of this sketchbook collecting 150 of Michael's studies for his own characters and those of DC made between 2005 and 2007, just before his tragic passing in 2008.

CONAN RELEASED THIS WEEK!

Know o' Prince that betwixt the sinking of Atlantis and August 18 hither came CONAN! A raver, a slayer and with hair by Teezy Weezy of Hollywood, hailing Princes and Princesses across Paris Conan the movie kicks off tomorrow August 17!


The trailer looks like fans of the sword and sorcery genre will be served up a generous helping of what they like best but oh my why on earth did the Hollywood producers give their glowering star an 80s vintage glam rocker's teased tresses, duh!?
Anyway his hair aside the Conan movie looks visually strong, and if heroic fantasy is your cup of mead then head over to rue Dante where the Pulp's stores carry a heady range of products you may like.

Ryan's profile is at odds with his talent in as much that you'll have heard far more about artists with half his ability.
